Despite the recession, a major economic development project, representing an investment of $4.5 million opened its doors in New Bremen, Ohio. Elmwood of New Bremen, an assisted living community, announced in March 2008 its intention to come to New Bremen. Owner and Chief Executive Officer, Kathy Hunt, made a presentation to the village council, where she unveiled her plans to build a 60 unit facility at the southeast corner of Amsterdam Road and South Walnut Street. The ground breaking for the new facility was held in July 2009, and one year later, Elmwood of New Bremen held its Grand Opening and Dedication.
According to Karen Mauch, Village Economic Development Director, “Elmwood of New Bremen is a development project that represents the best of a partnership between business owner, local governments and school districts working together to bring a project to fruition. All three played an important role in the negotiations that enabled Elmwood to make the final decision to come to New Bremen.” Working closely with Elmwood, and local school districts, the village was able to put together a package of local real estate tax incentives which “closed the deal”. Savings to Elmwood will equal $585,000.
Elmwood of New Bremen features 44 assisted living suites and 17 private studio suites for Alzheimer’s and memory care residents, 24 hour onsite nursing care and support and specialty senior programs such as a day care and a respite care program.
