Galion offers its own utility services with an electric line department, which is served by American Municipal Power, as well as water and wastewater distribution, collection and treatment departments. Having these resources within Galion and readily available on a 24/7 basis means most problems within our city can be handled quickly with minimal downtime. Our well-trained police and fire/EMS departments provide around-the-clock safety and security service to our citizens, utilizing the latest in communications and safety equipment. Our municipal airport has a 3500’ runway with 24 hour fuel sales and hangers available for rent. Graham Aviation serves as our fixed base operator. The Galion street department provides “all-season services,” including everything from street paving to street snowplowing. The parks division takes care of our many beautiful parks, trails, shelters and other recreational areas and facilities. Outdoor enthusiasts have access to over 300 acres of Galion city parks and reservoirs, where you can enjoy nature walks, bike rides, swimming, tennis, baseball, picnics, fishing and winter sledding. In the heart of Heise Park is the city-owned swimming pool and bathhouse where the local Red Cross Chapter offers swimming lessons in the summer. The PECO II softball and baseball complex hosts city leagues as well as events that attract participants and spectators from around Ohio. Galion is home to two golf courses, Galion Country Club and Valley View Golf Course, with three other golf courses a short distance away. Additional recreational programs are offered through the Galion Community Center YMCA and the Crawford Park District. The recreational choices are endless.
Education is a top priority. Our elementary, middle and high schools are located in state-of-the art facilities in a campus-style setting. Our buildings are rich with technology, offering our students access to a variety of 21st Century learning tools. Students are provided opportunities through special education services, talented and gifted programs and Pioneer Career and Technology School. High School students have the opportunity to enroll in post-secondary, advanced placement or dual enrollment courses to earn both high school and college credits. Galion is close to the Ohio State University branches at Mansfield and Marion. Other colleges close to home include North Central State College and Med Central College of Nursing in Mansfield and Marion Technical College.
