Community Profile

Charming, classic, Americana community – that’s Genoa. Located in southwest Ottawa County in northwest Ohio, our community has much to offer, beginning with accessibility. State Route 163 passes through town and provides access to Interstate 75 and the Ohio Turnpike. State Route 51 which crosses the northern part of the village, enables an easy commute to Toledo or the shores of Lake Erie, including Maumee Bay State Park. These major highways provide easy transit to many metropolitan areas. For those longer commutes, the Toledo Express Airport is within 35 minutes.

One of our immediate attractions is our historic downtown which is enjoyed by local shoppers and tourists alike. The 600 block of Main Street is on the National Historic Registry as is the State’s only registered School House Privy located behind the Camper school at Main and 4th Streets. The Village Town Hall houses an Opera House and a Fireman’s Memorial is located just outside. Veterans Memorial Park hosts picnic shelters, walking trails, baseball fields, tennis courts, sledding hill, basketball courts, a skate park, quarry swimming and a war memorial. The Quarry is a spring-fed “water hole” that spans nearly a quarter mile around and is 100 feet deep in some locations, and is staffed by Red Cross certified lifeguards. In addition to the stone quarry, a smaller, shallow pool is available for younger children to enjoy. (The Village of Genoa also maintains a comprehensive web site.)

Genoa provides municipal utilities including: water, sewer, and electric; as well as removal of trash and recyclables. Its high school, Genoa Local High, enrolls between 550 – 600 students, and allows for teacher-pupil interaction. Our avenues of highways make it easy to attend college close to home. The Toledo area, an approximate 30-35 minute drive, offers the University of Toledo, Toledo School of Practical Nursing, and Owens Community College. Bowling Green University is a 32 minute drive, while Tiffin University is an approximate 45 minute drive.

We’ve got it all in Genoa! Quality services, a beautiful historic downtown, educational opportunities, plenty of relaxation and enjoyment, and access to anywhere. Stop in and see for yourself, or give us a call and we would be glad to show you around.
