Community Profile

Picturesque Appalachian foothills may be the immediate attraction for visitors to Jackson, but we have much more to offer. We are a business-friendly community with a dedicated labor force and excellent transportation links. Two major highways – U.S.35 and State Route 32 pass through Jackson, and seven major interstate highways are situated within a two hour drive. Interstates 71, 74 and 75 to the west, in addition to Interstates 77 and 79 to the east are north-south expressways while Interstate 64 to the south and Interstate 70 to the north provide primary east-west access. Most of these interstates are accessible via 4-lane highways. All of these highways situate our city within one days’ drive of two-thirds of the U.S. population. These highways also allow for the citizens of Jackson to reach major cities such as Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton, Ohio; and Huntington and Charleston, West Virginia, within two hours; while maintaining home life a bit removed from the on-goings of big city life. Located just five miles south of town is the James A. Rhodes Airport. Port Columbus International Airport is 1 hour and 37 minutes to the north.

Jackson offers quality and economical utilities: water, sewer, electric distribution, and trash pickup. Newly remodeled schools provide a great environment for student learning. We are fortunate to have an array of colleges/universities and technical schools within an hour drive (Daymar College, University of Rio Grande, Ohio University, and Shawnee State University). Ohio State University in Columbus, and Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, can be driven in approximately 1 ½ hours.

Our city offers Enterprise Zones with tax exemptions and a revolving loan fund. Jackson County offers an economic development office which can assist with state loans and tax credit programs.

For relaxation after a day’s work, we offer a variety of recreational opportunities. Our area is well-known for its outdoors where hunting, camping, and fishing are popular. We offer recreational programs – both outdoor and indoor activities. Jackson is working towards expanding its outdoor facilities with the development of the McKitterick Recreational Complex.

Whether you wish to locate near major highways, good utility service, quality educational facilities, incentives, or recreational opportunities – Jackson offers it all! Come visit and we’re sure you will agree.
