Community Profile

Consider Niles! What could be better than a small-town atmosphere with “Big City” amenities? We offer great transportation, quality schools, entertainment/recreational opportunities, fine shopping, and a variety of business and industry.

The City of Niles is a prime location – halfway between Cleveland and Pittsburgh (both less than 70 miles away). Akron is less than 47 miles and can be driven in less than an hour. We have excellent access to major interstates including Interstate 76 (4.2 miles), Interstate 80 (8 miles), and Interstate 77 (less than 45 miles). The Ohio Turnpike can be accessed in just over one hour. One can commute to destinations such as Charleston, WV; Dayton, OH; or Rochester, NY, in less than 4 ½ hours.

For those longer commutes, the Youngstown/Warren Regional Airport is only a 15 minute drive. Between 1 – 1 ½ hours, you can also reach the Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport, Akron/Canton Regional Airport, or the Pittsburgh International Airport. Our city also has rail transportation available.

We have our own municipal utilities such as light, water, and sewer. As municipal utilities, our citizens have part ownership and are able to elect their representatives to the board/council. These utilities provide local service by local personnel.

Recreation, entertainment, and shopping abound here. We have our own minor league baseball team and are close to professional sports in Cleveland and Pittsburgh. For shopping, we offer the Eastwood Mall (with anchor stores such as Macy’s, Dillard’s, JC Penney, Target, and Sears) and the Great East Plaza. Multiple golf courses are located within the area, and several amusement and water parks are just a short drive away.

Area youth attend Niles City Schools. Within an hour drive or less, one can attain further education at Youngstown State University, Kent State University, Mount Union College, Grove City College, or Geneva College.

This is just some of what the City of Niles has to offer. Businesses such as General Electric Co. and Dinesol Plastics, Inc. (wide range of components for appliances, hardware, medical, electronic, building, etc.) have found success in our community. We’re sure you would, too.

Land and existing facilities are available. Don’t hesitate. Give us a call. Let us show you what we can do for you.
