Community Profile

In north central Ohio, ten miles east of Lake Erie, Oak Harbor lies on the north bank of the Portage River. What a great location! In addition to the Lake, our highway access is excellent. We are just 9 minutes from the Ohio Turnpike, 14 minutes from US 6 and US 20, and 32 minutes from Interstate 75 which travels from Michigan to Florida. Our access to major highways allows us to commute to metropolitan areas such as Pittsburgh, PA; Cincinnati, OH; Gary, IN; and Grand Rapids, MI, within 3 ½ – 4 hours. The Toledo Express Airport is an approximate 48 minute drive, while the Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport can be driven within 1 ½ hours.

We are proud to provide municipal electric, water, and wastewater services. Locally owned and locally operated, we aim to provide quality, reliable, and economic utilities. We are here to serve you.

Park facilities are one of the other services we provide. Three primary parks exist in Oak Harbor. Veterans Memorial Park includes little league diamonds, a softball diamond with concession stand, basketball courts, tennis courts, a sledding hill, roller blade/ice skating rink, playground equipment, open air shelters with electric service, etc. Town Hall Park, near the Municipal Building, is the “public square” where the former town hall was located. A log cabin, picnic tables, and benches are located here for some rest and relaxation. Flat Iron Park includes a gazebo and a memorial to local veterans. Other recreational opportunities include the shores of Lake Erie, Crane Creek State Park, beaches, marinas, and the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge.

Our children attend Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools here in Oak Harbor. Our school system was rated “excellent” by the Ohio Department of Education. Colleges and universities are also available close to home. Within 45 minutes, one can drive to the University of Toledo, OwensCommunity College – Toledo, Bowling Green State University, or Tiffin University.

The dreams of our ancestors are still alive today and it shows in the spirit of our people. We, the current citizens, wish to expand on their dreams and add a few of our own. We invite you to be a part of it all. You can play an integral role in our future. Just give us a call and we’ll be glad to show you around.
