Community Profile

Located on Interstate 75, just 20 miles north of Interstate 70, Piqua, Ohio, is an ideal location to live work and play. Within a 300 mile radius, businesses have access to markets in Cleveland, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky. Additionally, the community is served by the Dayton International Airport, which is located less than 30 minutes away.

The City provides quality municipal utilities including water, wastewater, and electric. Piqua Municipal Power System has achieved the American Public Power Association’s RP3 (Reliable Public Power Provider) Diamond Level, and is one of six of over 2,000 eligible municipal electric systems to achieve a perfect 100% score for excellence in safety, workforce development, reliability and system improvement.

The community has many successful, long-time industries that have shaped our City. They include: Hartzell Industries, Hartzell Propeller, and French Oil Mill Machinery. Other companies have also recognized Piqua as ideal location to grow their business, including Evenflo, Harmony Systems & Service and Polysource Our location, cost of doing business, and available well-trained workforce are important factors in these companies’ success.

Recreational activities abound in the community. Seventeen parks, a municipal swimming pool, 18-hole municipal golf course, 11.3 miles of walk/bike path, cultural arts are just a few of the leisure activities. The historic Johnston Farm & Indian Agency hosts events throughout the year celebrating our region’s heritage. The Piqua Country Club offers one of the best golf courses in the region. And, if shopping is more your speed, the Miami Valley Centre Mall, various shopping centers and our beautiful downtown offer a number of specialty shopping and antiquing venues.

Our education offerings include the Piqua City Schools, a parochial school (Piqua Catholic) and Lehman Catholic High School. The Upper Valley Joint Vocational School, which serves Miami and Shelby Counties, is also located in Piqua. Also located in the community, Edison State College offers more than fifty two-year Associate Degrees, which can be transferred to four-year institutions across Ohio. Other colleges/universities within a forty mile radius include: Urbana University, Clark State Community College, Wittenberg University, Wright State University, the University of Dayton, and Sinclair Community College.
