Community Profile
Shiloh is a quaint hometown village of 649 residents located in the north-central part of Richland County in the “heart” of north-central Ohio. We’re made up of a mix of proud Americans coming originally from our area as well as many of the surrounding states.
The elevation of Shiloh ranges from 1,079 feet to 1,296 feet above sea level, and we have a land area of 0.91 sq. miles, (2.4 km²), and a population density of 713.19 people per sq. mile. Our average temperatures range from 20F in January to 85F in July. We maintain 5.6 miles of roadways within the village. An interesting geographic fact about Shiloh is that the East and South portion of the village naturally drains to the Ohio River, while the Northern and west parts drain to Lake Erie.
We’ve been incorporated as a village since March 02, 1874. Originally named “Salem”, we took the name of “Shiloh” from the battle of Shiloh, which was a turning point of the Civil War.
We’re located almost equal distances from Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo making Shiloh an ideal location for those seeking the solitude of country living without being more than an hour and a half from the many attractions of our large cities. We’re also located less than twenty miles from three quality colleges and universities. The Ohio State University Mansfield Branch, Ashland University, and North Central State College, are on our doorstep while Tiffin University, Heidelberg, Bowling Green State University, Fireland’s Campus, Kenyon College and Mt. Vernon Nazarene University are all just a few minutes drive away. We’re located on State Route 603, for easy access to our village, and have rail access provided by CSX. We’re less than thirty minutes from I-71, twenty-five minutes north of State Route 30 – The Lincoln Highway, and less than ten minutes south of US Route 224.
The Village of Shiloh is proud of its quality services that we offer to our residents, commercial business and industry. We own and operate our Electrical Distribution system, our Water, Sewer, and Street Departments and contract for our Cable, and Garbage services. Our Village Officers include The Mayor, Village Administrator, Clerk-Treasurer, Utility Clerk / Mayor’s Court Clerk, a six-member Village Council, Village Inspector, and a five-member Zoning Board.
Our children attend The Plymouth-Shiloh Local School District. We’re honored to be the home of four local churches, two industrial facilities, some twenty commercial businesses which accompany our approximately three-hundred residences.
