Community Profile

Located on PA 42 & PA 487 in Columbia County, Catawissa, Pennsylvania, is a small community nestled among the foothills, along the north branch of the Susquehana River. Several surrounding interstates make our community easily accessible. Interstate 80 can be reached in 10 minutes, Interstate 81 – 35 minutes, and Interstate 78 – within an hour. Markets such as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Trenton, New Jersey; and New York City, New York; can all be driven in 2.5 – 3 hours. Allentown and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, can both be accessed within a 1.5 hour commute. For further destinations, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and Williamsport Regional Airport are both available within an hour.

Students are educated through the Southern Columbia Area School District located in Catawissa. Several opportunities for higher education exist within the region. Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania is just a 15 minute commute, while Bucknell University, Pennsylvania College of Technology, and Wilkes University can all be driven within an hour or less. Kutztown University of Pennsylvania is an approximate 1.5 hour commute.

We are a community who knows how to work and knows how to relax. In addition to parks and playgrounds, we offer local campground facilities with scenic views and peaceful waters. We are home to a beautiful covered bridge and the Catawissa Opera House which can be rented for special events. You may enjoy a drive through Columbia County to visit its 23 covered bridges and their beautiful surroundings. Or, if you are a boating or fishing enthusiast, Briar Creek Lake offers 53 acres of water and a 173 acre park where you might enjoy a picnic.
