Community Profile

Situated amongst the beautiful scenery of the Appalachians, Duncannon is a small town with easy access to quality transportation. Located on PA 274, we are within short commutes of many quality roadways. Running adjacent to our community are U.S. Highways 11/15, and 22/322. Interstate 81 is within 12.5 miles, Interstate 83 – 15.5 miles, and Interstate 76 – 20 miles. These thoroughfares allow one to drive to Harrisburg, PA in 20 minutes, Baltimore, MD in 1 ¾ hours, Philadelphia, PA in 2 hours, Trenton, NJ in 2 ½ hours, and Washington, D.C. in 2 ¾ hours. Harrisburg International Airport provides air transportation to more distant locations. Within 16 miles of Duncannon, one is also able to access Amtrak.

Duncannon owns and operates a municipal electric system. All electrical issues are handled locally, with no intermediaries involved. As a municipal utility, you are part-owner and can take part in their open meetings. Through local ownership and operation, we are able to provide a quality, dependable, and economical electric service, and give back to the community through in-kind contributions.

Susquenita Schools provides education for local youth. Within a 50 mile radius, one can access several colleges/universities to advance their learning and/or obtain a degree. These include: Harrisburg Area Community College, Pennsylvania State University – Penn St. Harrisburg (Middletown, PA), Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA), Messiah College (Grantham, PA), Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, and York College of Pennsylvania.

In addition to the traditional park or play lot, Duncannon and surrounding Perry County offer many more recreational opportunities amidst our beautiful natural surroundings. Many enjoy climbing, hiking, and mountaineering the Appalachian Trails and the scenic vistas of Hawk Rocks and Cove Mountain. Others enjoy boating and fishing on the nearby Susquehanna River. However you wish to relax, you’ll find a quiet, peaceful setting in Duncannon!
