Community Profile

Amidst the rural setting of Schuylkill County, sets Saint Clair, Pennsylvania. Though our community may be small, the hearts of our citizens are enormous. They are hard-working people determined to work together for the betterment of Saint Clair.

Our community has access to the larger metropolitan/market distribution areas with Interstate 81 begin an approximate 5 minute commute. In addition, Interstate 78 can be reached in less than 30 minutes, while Interstate 76 can be reached in 1 hour. Our location, combined with the accessibility of these highways, allow one to reach cities such as Harrisburg and Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1-2 hours. The metropolitan areas of Trenton, New Jersey; Baltimore, Maryland; and Staten Island and New York City, New York; can all be driven to in 2 – 2.75 hours. Air transportation is also readily attainable. Reading Regional Airport is an approximate ¾ hour drive, while both Lehigh Valley International Airport and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport can be reached in approximately 1 hour.

The local electric system is owned and operated by the borough. Saint Clair Borough Electric Light Department maintains the distribution lines and provides related services throughout the community. Residents have part-ownership, have the opportunity to elect representatives to the board/council, and attend their open meetings. Any electrical issues are resolved locally within the borough. As a municipal system, it is our goal to provide quality service at an economical price. This is achieved through the assistance of American Municipal Power (AMP), a nonprofit corporation serving municipal electric systems in six states, who owns and operates electric facilities or otherwise provides for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power and energy to its members.

Local school children attend St. Clair Elementary School and Pottsville Area High School, just an 8 minute commute. Several colleges/universities are available within an hour’s drive for those who wish to further their education. They include: Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Penn State Berks, Wilkes University, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, and Lehigh Carbon Community College.

Schuylkill County is a popular outdoor destination as it is home to three (3) state parks, seven (7) campgrounds, the Appalachian Trail, the Little Schuylkill River, Sweet Arrow Lake County Park, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, five (5) golf courses, miniature golf courses, unique monuments, museums, etc. Most of all, we offer beautiful scenery and a relaxing atmosphere.
