Community Profile

“The Little Town That Could”

Situated amongst the trees and mountains of eastern Pennsylvania sets beautiful Schuylkill Haven. We are a community who not only “thinks we can” accomplish whatever we set our minds to, we know we can!

With Interstate 81, twelve miles to the north and Interstate 78, thirteen miles to the south, ingress and egress to Schuylkill Haven is quite simple. In less than two hours, one can drive to cities in Pennsylvania such as Allentown, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia. In less than three hours one can drive to destinations such as New York City, Trenton, Baltimore, and Dover. Three Airports; Reading Regional, Lehigh International in Allentown, and Harrisburg International are all within a one hour drive from the Borough.

Our community owns and operates municipal electric, water, and sewer services. As a municipal service provider, we cater to you – our customers and owners. Emergency response to interruptions in utility services is quick and efficient. This is not the case with investor-owned utilities.

Citizens elect representatives to the governing board(s) and you may participate in their open meetings to express any concerns. Land Zoning is controlled by the Borough and any issues that may arise are resolved locally.

Schuylkill Haven Area School District provides education for our youth. Upon graduation from high school, one may choose to remain in the community to attend college. The Penn State Schuylkill Campus lies along our southern boundaries. Penn State Berks County and AlbrightCollege, both in Reading, can be reached in approximately 40 minutes.

Excellent recreational facilities have been developed in Schuylkill Haven. Playgrounds and basketball courts are located at several parks throughout the community. Pavilions are available at all playground facilities. The Island is also home to recreational youth baseball, youth soccer, a softball team, youth flag football league, walking trail, boat launch, 40 x 100 foot outdoor pavilion and concession area. Bubeck Park is a very inviting and enjoyable place to visit. Some of its highlights include Stoyer’s Dam, a performance stage, and three pavilions with electricity, charcoal grills, a gazebo, war memorial, small playground and handicap accessible restrooms. Benches, trees, ducks, and swans add to the beautiful surroundings. The Recreation Center located on Haven Street is one of the finest community centers in all of Schuylkill County. Senior citizens, scouts, Biddy Basketball, banquets, adult basketball, council meetings and other community minded events are held here year round.

A few paragraphs cannot do our community justice, but we invite you to visit and let us show you around. We are a positive community, cherishing our past and focusing on the future. Businesses such as The Haven Line Industries (manufacturers of hardwood caskets since 1919) and Cardinal Systems (swimming pool manufacturing and prefab foundations since 1978) have been successful here. Our “little town that could” would do anything to help you succeed here, too.
