Community Profile

Situated on U.S. 19, just east of Interstate 79 in Butler County, the Borough of Zelienople is easily accessible. Also running through the Borough are PA 68 and PA 288, with Interstate 76 lying 15 minutes south and Interstate 80 just 32 minutes north. These thoroughfares bring metropolitan America within easy driving distance: Erie, PA (1 ¾ hr.), Cleveland, OH (2 ¼ hr.), Buffalo, NY (3 ¼ hr.), Columbus, OH (3 ½ hr.), and Harrisburg, PA (just under a 4 hr. commute).

For those longer commutes, air transportation is readily available. Pittsburgh International Airport is less than a 35 minute commute. In addition, we are owners of the Zelienople Municipal Airport, located near the industrial parks, which continues to see increased growth.

We own and operate our municipal electric and water systems. As municipal utilities, we maintain all distribution lines and provide all related services. We work with you and for you. Our customers have part-ownership in our systems. Citizens elect representatives to the board and may attend their open meetings and provide input. Electrical and water issues are resolved locally by local personnel. We are members of American Municipal Power (AMP), a nonprofit organization serving municipal electric systems in six states, with whom we work closely to provide our community with a diverse mix of reliable power at a competitive price.

Seneca Valley School District provides education for our youth. The Seneca Valley Middle, Intermediate, and High Schools are just north of the Borough, while Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School is near the eastern boundary of our community. Within ¾ hour drive, there are also several options for furthering one’s education including: Butler County Community College, Geneva College, Slippery Rock University, Strayer University, and the University of Pittsburgh.

Our community provides the right blend of local leisure and recreational opportunities, combined with a variety of cultural events in nearby metropolitan areas. The Community Park on the southeast side of the Borough provides swimming, basketball courts, ball fields, tennis courts, shelters and a playground. The Zelienople Harmony Athletic Association offers league opportunities for our children.

Several industries have found success here. We invite you to join our community as well. Just stop by or give us a call to arrange a visit. You will be glad you did!
