ThyssenKrupp Bilstein expands in Hamilton

The largest manufacturer in Hamilton, ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America Inc., celebrated the grand opening Feb. 22, 2016 of a 30,000 square-foot expansion of its high-performance shock absorber factory, with further expansion starting soon. The company has hired new employees every month during the past five years, officials said, with plans to continue hiring through this year and into 2017.

In 2010, ThyssenKrupp Bilstein had 160 employees in Hamilton and West Chester, Ohio, and today the company has 680. Five years ago, it occupied about 120,000 square feet locally. By the end of this year, its footprint will be close to 300,000 square feet.

“Right now, we can’t grow fast enough to the demand from the customer side for our business,” Bass said, calling the Hamilton facility’s success “a phenomenal testament to the engineering capability, to the power of ThyssenKrupp in regards to really harnessing our competencies on a global basis, and realizing them in a local community partnership.”

The company plans to break ground in June 2016 on the second 30,000-square-foot phase of its combined $26 million expansion.
